Comparing depression rates among cities & countries

4.23.11 Speaking of non-depressed people in Northern Europe, NYTimes released an article today about suicide rates in happy places. Previous studies had shown that countries like Denmark and Sweden, known as places inhabited by happier and more satisfied people than the average earthling, had relatively high suicide rates. Similar results were reported in the U.S., where states with higher overall happiness had higher suicide rates. Surprisingly, New York ranks 45th in life satisfaction and has the lowest suicide rate while Utah has the highest life satisfaction rate and 9th highest suicide rate! Maybe it's time us NYers sent some fish to Utahians, don't you think?

Well, NY'ers probably don't have the time to commit suicide.

I agree... then again... life is more fun with ups and downs, why else do random ppl seek problems in matters where none exists?
